George III Giltwood Robert Adam Period "Dressed" Oval Mirror

Mainly original gilding; original glass.

With a plaque in the finial depicting Diana the Huntress.

The glass is older than the frame - reuse of "old" glass was not uncommon in the 18th century because of the high expense of mirror plate.

It is interesting to compare this mirror with the similar, though much larger, dressed Adam borderglass mirror that we also have. Where that is all robust strength, this frame exhibits the highest degree of finesse and delicacy. One style, but two very different interpretations.
